How it works
A new engine, your game’s data
Lucernarium’s games are clean-room recreations, written from scratch in Rust. Each one reads the maps, models, sounds, scripts and menus from the copy of the game you own on Steam, and runs them in a new engine of our own. If you also have a game’s free Mod Tools, those are read from your copy in the same way.
What you download from us is only our own code. No part of the original game comes from us.
What we keep exact
The aim is the game as it was: its menus, its rules, its sounds and its feel. Wherever the game’s own data can decide something, it does.
Where the original’s behaviour cannot be known from its data, our documentation says so and marks the guess. The few deliberate changes, our house rules, are listed, and each one has a switch.
What we never do
We never host or download game files, and we never host or download mods. We never change your Steam installation: the game is read, not modified.
The launcher collects only what it needs to run and to keep online play working; our privacy notice sets out exactly what that is. Lucernarium is not affiliated with Activision, Treyarch or any publisher.
